Middle of the Thames

Southend Pier
Southend Pier

So I have it on good authority that Southend Pier is still the longest pier in the world, so I had to blog about it. It is actually more than the golden mile at 1.33 miles in old money or 2.14 kilometres in new money! I did not get the train but walked both ways just trying to top up the tan. As a child there was a laughing policeman at the end of the pier but now there is a coffee shop, much more my pace nowadays. So the pier stretches all the way out to where the Thames meets the North Sea so not far from the Isle of Sheppey so I am justified in posting about it as a different place to Southend. I will definitely be looking at where I can get a boat to from here although it did not look too busy when I was there. Great to revisit childhood haunts with my cousin.
