Lovran, Croatia
What a lovely little trip to Lovran, a lovely birthday treat from an old friend. A great apartment, albeit up a hill but not too bad as there was a supermarket onroute and shade most of the way. Added bonus was that Croatia TV had much better football angles than the BBC so I could see England go out in style. Also meant that they could cook my favourite Slovene dish for several days in a row, too hot to eat much and I actually only get it once in a while so no complaints from me! It was a quick trip but plenty of time to wallow in the warm water, both from a pebble beach and also from a platform with more accessible stairs. We witnessed an amazing storm and hastily retreated from the sea as the lightening started to strike. It was actually refreshing to watch the downpour from the shelter of the promenade above. I have been to the neighbouring resort of Opatija before but first time in Lovran and well worth a visit if you can get here. The roads were rather steep even for people used to driving in the hills.
