Torremolinos
Torremolinos

Well I was nearby so I had to give Torremolinos a try. As I left the train station I immediately saw the first signs of 'egg and chips land', there were plenty of signs for 'full English' on either side of the busy pedestrian shopping area but there was also some Spanish charm and it got better as I descended the steep and windy steps to the beach. Unfortunately, at the bottom I emerged into a sea of 'wifebeaters' strolling along the coastal walkway surrounded by tacky souvenir shops and bars. The beach was expansive and I settled myself near an unused lifeguard station in the hope that my belongings would be safe whilst I had a quick dip. The picture does not really show the strength of the waves or the number of surfers. I tried to get in but as I was alone urged on the side of caution and just had a quick splash in the shallows as I thought it unsafe to risk getting knocked out by a wave or worse still a surfboard. I managed to catch some rays but without being able to lounge in the water I was not able to stay more than a few hours. There were some positives, mostly the strength of the sun in September and the sound of the crashing waves but these were also negatives and I do not think it is really the place for me.
